AGVISE Laboratories has been manufacturing and distributing soil sampling equipment for more than 25 years. During that time our staff has used personal sampling experience to design heavy duty hydraulic sampling systems. With customers from all over the U.S. and Canada, we have equipment to cover the needs of all our customers. Some customers require equipment that can sample to 24” and others need to sample down to 48”. AGVISE also distributes hand sampling equipment from other manufacturers.
24” Electric/Hydraulic Soil Sampling System (Complete Unit)
This hydraulic sampling system is designed to collect 0-6” and 6-24” soil samples. The system is powered by an electric over hydraulic power system. The full cycle time for the system is 10-12 seconds (down and up). This sampling system includes the 12-volt power system with control box and power cables, a 30” hydraulic cylinder attached to a channel iron, 2 stainless steel probe bodies (one slotted and one solid), two quicktatch collars and three replaceable tips( 5/8”, 3/4“ and wet tip), 2 heavy duty (Chromoly) probe bodies (one slotted and one solid), quicktatch collars and two replaceable tips (wet and dry tip). Spare parts and accessories included are 1 electric solenoid, 1 spare hydraulic solenoid and 1 control box along with a probe cleaning brush and handle.
This system will push through about 8-10 inches of frost when mounted inside the truck cab. This system is designed to be mounted inside the cab of a truck, but it can also be mounted on the receiver hitch. The 30” cylinder is already mounted on a channel iron. To mount the cylinder inside the cab, find an area 6” by 6” directly to the right of the driver where the soil probe can go through between the frame and the exhaust system or transfer case of the truck. Then cut a 6” by 6” hole in the floor of the truck. Bolt a cross member to both sides of the truck frame, just to the side behind the hole. Then put the cylinder through the 6” hole in the floor and bolt the channel iron to the cross member. Place the 6” hole as close to the driver as possible so he doesn’t have to reach very far to attach the soil probe to the cylinder. Having the hole close to the driver also you too see the probe site and swipe away some crop residue with the soil probe to get better quality samples. The power unit should be attached to the floor in the box of the truck or behind the driver seat. Hydraulic hoses should run from the power unit to the cylinder through the hole in the floor of the cab (protect the hoses so they don’t get cut by vibration). Be sure to use the swivels provided for the hose connections on the pump. Using quicktatch couplers on the hoses is a good idea as well so you can easily remove the system or replace the cylinder.

Stainless Steel Probe Body And Cleaning Brush
Probe bodies are available in solid or slotted models. The Quicktach collar is supplied with each probe body. A cleaning brush handle and a replaceable nylon brush are available for probe cleaning.
Heavy Duty-Oversize Probe And Tip
This new probe body and tip are made from a very hard metal (chromoly steel aircraft tubing). This probe and tip were designed specifically for very wet sticky soils but also work very well in frozen or dry soil conditions.
Gas Motor Power System
This power system has a Honda Motor (6 or 8 hp) and a large capacity hydraulic pump and tank. This power system can be used with either the 30” cylinder or larger cylinders which required a larger reservoir. This system has an electric start, which can be remotely located in the truck cab. This power system is required for telescoping cylinders (40-48” sampling) because of the increased flow rate required. Deep sampling (40-48”) may be necessary for sugar beets and other deep rooted crops)
A Quicktatch collar is supplied with each probe body. The Quicktatch collar must be welded to the probe body once sufficient clearance under the truck is determined. This special collar allows you to quickly attach and remove the soil probe from the hydraulic cylinder.
Cylinder Mounting Bracket
This bracket can be used for fastening the 30” cylinder from the sampling system to the truck frame under the cab. The 30” cylinder in the sampling system is already bolted into a channel iron when you receive it. The channel iron holding the cylinder will be bolted to the yellow bracket underneath the cab of the truck to hold the cylinder in place. The blue cross member is 2” by 5” by 54” (long enough for any truck frame). The blue cross member should be cut and bolted up inside frame to maintain ground clearance.

Small electric/hydraulic sampling power unit
This power unit is used with our basic sampling system using our small shaft cylinder and doing 24″ sampling. When doing 24″ sampling this power unit will cycle the cylinder up and down 24″ in 10-12 seconds.
Large electric/hydraulic sampling power unit
This power unit is designed for use with the telescoping cylinder and 42″ sampling depth. When doing a 42″ sample the cycle time is 25-30 seconds.
