AGVISE Laboratories has been manufacturing and distributing soil sampling equipment for over 25 years. During that time our staff has used personal sampling experience to design heavy duty hydraulic sampling systems. With customers from all over the U.S. and Canada, we have equipment to cover the needs of all our customers. Some customers require equipment that can sample to 24" and others need to sample down to 48". AGVISE also distributes hand sampling equipment from other manufacturers for our customers who need good quality hand sampling equipment.
Soil Sampling System:
This hydraulic sampling system is design to collect 0-6" and 6-24" soil samples. The system is power by an
electric over hydraulic power system. The full cycle time for the system is 10-12 seconds (down and up). This
system will push through about 10-15 inches of frost when mounted inside the truck cab. This system is design to
be mounted inside the cab of a truck, but it can also be mounted outside if you prefer. The 30" cylinder is
already mounted on a channel iron. To mount the cylinder inside the cab, find an area 6" by 6" where the soil
probe can go through between the frame and the exhaust system of the truck. Then cut a 6" by 6" hole in the floor
of the truck. Bolt a cross member to both sides of the frame, just to the side of the whole above. Then put the
cylinder through a 6" hole in the floor and bolt the channel iron to the cross member. Place the 6" hole as close
to the driver as possible so he doesn't have to reach very far to attach the soil probe to the cylinder. The power
unit should be attached to the floor in the box of the truck. Hoses should run from the power unit to the cylinder
through the whole in the floor of the cab. Be sure to use quicktatch couplers on the hoses so the cylinder and the
power unit can be easily removed and stored in a dry area for the winter. This sampling system includes the
12-volt power system with controls and power cables, a 30" hydraulic cylinder attached to a channel iron, 2
stainless steel probe bodies (one slotted and one solid), two screw on tips (one wet and one dry soil tip), and a
cleaning brush and handle.
Hydraulic Soil Sampling Equipment

The hydraulic sampling equipment provided by AGVISE is designed to be mounted inside the cab of a pickup. Sampling systems mounted in the cab of the truck allow the sampler to examine each soil core that is collected. If the core is not of high quality, it is discarded and another core is collected. Automated sampling systems do not allow for this quality control by the sampler. Cab mounted systems also provide a better work environment and enable sampling through at least 12" of frost. This will extend the soil sampling season in the fall and spring.
We offer two hydraulic cylinders types. The 30" single stage cylinder is designed for taking 24" samples. The 48" two stage cylinder is designed for sampling from 42-48" depths. A universal mounting bracket is available for fastening these cylinders to any truck frame. You can choose from an electric over hydraulic power system or two sizes of Honda gas engine powered systems (6 hp or 8 hp). All of these power units are mounted in the truck box.
All of our stainless steel sampling tubes come with a quicktach collar and replaceable tips. We now provide 5 tips to choose from. These tips have various opening sizes and designs (see picture). The tip that will perform the best depends on the soil texture and moisture content. AGVISE values the input we get from customers on how our equipment performs. The modified ¾" tip was made based on information provided by Pat Feist, a customer from Minnewauken, ND. After a year of testing by our customers, we will decide if we will add this tip permanently to our 4 standard tip designs. Improved tip design will increase sample quality and samples collected per day (efficiency).
